Viking Historical Romance · The Sworn Sagas
Unfit for the Shield
Ten winters ago she called the girl unfit for the shield. Now the girl has called her to the holmgang, and the law says they spend the winter under one roof.
Asvor Eyjolfsdottir has rowed ten years for strangers because of one word from the district's most famous shield-maiden. Bergthora Hallbjarnardottir is forty-five, lost her sword-hand at the wrist on her last raid, and is still the deadliest blade in the fjord with her left. A challenge called at Winter Nights waits for the spring Thing, and until then the challenger lives in the challenged woman's house.
Their first dawn bout in the frozen fold ends with the two of them on the ground together, and nothing is forgiven. A holmgang can't be withdrawn. Every night in Bergthora's bed, the duel is still waiting.
Then at midwinter Asvor learns why the word was spoken. With the thaw, a grasping kinsman spreads word of their bed, and a duel that isn't fought in earnest will cost them both everything.
A full-length, open-door sapphic Viking romance with an age gap, a one-handed heroine and a hard-won HEA. Perfect for fans of Genevieve Gornichec and Olivia Waite.
