The Cormorant Circuit
Everyone on this bus is somebody's whole life for eight weeks.
Nine in the morning at a loading bay in Sheffield. Load-in at ten, doors at seven, back on the bus by one, and a driver who is legally asleep by two whatever anyone else has decided. This is the circuit — Manchester, Nottingham, Cardiff, Hull, Glasgow, a London finish — worked by mid-tier British bands who have two albums, no crew to speak of, and a per-leg fee that runs out in January.
The Cormorant Circuit is a series of standalone British rockstar romances set on that road. Same label, same venues, same nightliners and service stations at four in the morning; a different band, and a different woman at the centre of it, every time. The people who make a tour work are the ones nobody claps for — tour managers, backline techs, promoters, the A&R who decides whether there is an album three — and they are the ones these books are about.
Every book is one woman and three men, and she does not have to choose. What she has to do is much harder: work out whether a thing that only exists between load-in and last call can survive a January when nobody is on a bus.
Unromantic about the industry. Romantic about the people in it.
