Juno Ashcroft

Juno spent six years as an archivist in a university special-collections library — the actual job of handling other people's secrets under supervision, in gloves, in a cold room — before she wrote a word of fiction. She is interested in institutions that promise to make you into someone, in the specific class violence of an old society deciding you are worth keeping, and in the fact that being chosen and being owned are much harder to tell apart from the inside. She thinks the reason people love these stories is not the danger; it is being selected by something that has been refusing people for two hundred years.
